NCSR Naughton Fellowship success – Spring 2013

Congratulations to Claire O’Connell and Ciaran Mooney who are this year’s recipients of the prestigious Naughton Graduate Student Exchange Fellowship, which is offered by the Naughton Foundation based at Notre Dame in the US.

Claire O’Connell was a Beaufort Scholar in the NCSR in 2012 and Ciaran Mooney completed a Hamilton scholarship in the NCSR in 2011.

Claire from the School of Physical Sciences and Ciaran from the School of Biotechnology will travel to Notre Dame in the summer for their 10- week placement.

The Naughton Fellowship facilitates cross-cultural training for exceptional students with leadership potential, stimulates research among engineers and scientists, and forges deeper and stronger ties between the host institutions and countries.

Students from Ireland experience international education at one of the US’s most prestigious universities, and US students can avail of the opportunity to study at either Dublin City University, Trinity College Dublin, University College Dublin or University College Cork.

The scholarships are awarded annually to students in the STEM-related areas (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics), and provide financial support to cover flights, accommodation and subsistence for the 10 week placement.
