Rosse Medal Award – March 2013

Congratulations to Daniel Kirby who won the Institute of Physics Rosse Medal for communicating postgraduate research on the March 22nd.

Daniel, a BDI postgraduate researcher, was presented with the medal by Prof. Sir Peter Knight, President of the Institute of Physics at the Institute of Physics Weekend in Galway.

Thirty five postgraduate physics students from all over Ireland entered the competition with 8 making it through to the final.

Each of the students gave a short presentation to the audience and panel of judges and answered questions on their research.

Daniel is a post graduate student working in Prof. Jens Ducrée’s group. He is currently carrying out research on the detection ofcancer from a blood sample on a rotating, magneticmicrofluidic, lab-on-a-disk platform.
